Covanta Alexandria processed 25 tons of wreaths from Arlington National Cemetery. Covanta has been a partner with Wreaths Across America for five years and utilizes the Waste-to-Energy process to sustainably recycle and dispose of wreaths that are laid on gravestones of military veterans at cemeteries across the United States free of charge.
Wreaths Across America is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2007 with a mission to remember the fallen, honor those that serve and their families, and teach the next generation about the value of freedom.
This year instead of a robust volunteer operation, wreaths were collected in accordance to COVID-19 guidelines. Covanta's Long Island facilities also participate in this program. Learn more about the efforts in New York here.
