On September 11, an estimated 4,500 American flags were retired in a dignified manner at the Covanta Fairfax Waste-to-Energy facility in Lorton, VA.
Covanta has partnered with local Boy Scouts troops since 2019, on a special process to ensure a respectful retirement of old and worn flags.
